Soldier killed in training accident

An Irish soldier was killed today in an off-road traffic accident at the Defence Forces Training Centre at the Curragh in Co Kildare.

An Irish soldier was killed today in an off-road traffic accident at the Defence Forces Training Centre at the Curragh in Co Kildare.

The single man, who was serving in a Dublin unit, died in the single-vehicle accident, at around 2.30pm this afternoon.

A Defence Forces spokesman said there were two other personnel in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

“They have been transferred to Naas General Hospital; the extent of their injuries is unknown at present,” he said.

“The accident happened during a training exercise on the off-road vehicle training circuit in the Defence Forces Training Centre. Further details will be released when the next of kin have been informed.”
