A train, heading from Rome to Campobasso, slammed into another train travelling from Rome to Cassino that stopped at the station in Roccasecca, about 80 miles south of the capital yesterday.

The news agency ANSA reported that a prosecutor in Cassino began questioning the two drivers of the Rome to Campobasso train who claimed the track appeared free and there was no stop sign.

Trenitalia spokesman Luigi Irdi today said that about 70 people were injured in the crash, at least three of them critically.
