A senior member of Iraq's Baath Party on the US most wanted list has been captured, US Central Command said today.
"Samir Abul Aziz al-Najim, one of the top 55 leaders of the regime, was handed over to coalition forces by Iraqi Kurds near Mosul in northern Iraq,'' Brig Gen Vincent Brooks said in Qatar.
Najim was a Baath Party regional command chairman for East Baghdad and was number 24 on the US most wanted list.
He became the fourth person on the list in US custody after being handed over to coalition troops by Iraqi Kurds near Mosul yesterday.
He was Minster of Oil until earlier this year and was Saddam Hussein’s chief of staff for several years after the 1991 Gulf War.
