Wednesday’s meeting at Newton Abbot has been abandoned after an inspection on Tuesday morning.

The going was described as heavy, soft in places with waterlogged patches early in the week and officials were forced to call off the fixture after walking the track.

Clerk of the course Jason Loosemore explained: “The waterlogging has left us with a number of false patches of ground around the riverside bend or straight, around the bottom bend and in a number of places in the back straight.

“There was no way we could give a safe passage through those areas so we had no option but to abandon at this stage.”
