Mr Ahern will meet the unionist leader along with DUP MPs Peter Robinson and Nigel Dodds.

The meeting will take place at the Irish Embassy on Wednesday and is the first set of talks between the DUP and the Irish Government since the British general election.

A spokesman for the Irish Government said the Taoiseach would also meet British Prime Minister Tony Blair at the House of Commons.

The two leaders are due to discuss progress in the peace process.

European leaders are due to gather to discuss the future of the EU following the ‘No’ votes on the referendum in France and the Netherlands.
