Ulster Unionist Party leader David Trimble has denied allegations that he is preparing a deal with Sinn Fein and the British government to allow up to 100 IRA fugitives to return to the North without facing charges.

The allegation was made by Mr Trimble's main rival, DUP leader Ian Paisley, during a speech to Orangemen in Co Down last night.

Responding this morning, Mr Trimble rejected Mr Paisley's claims and also denied that he had been given a list of up to 100 fugitives seeking an amnesty for prosecution.
