Premiership: Mouscron issues Spurs warning

Tottenham have been warned by the president of Belgian outfit Mouscron that he will not allow them to treat his team like a satellite club.

Tottenham have been warned by the president of Belgian outfit Mouscron that he will not allow them to treat his team like a satellite club.

The two sides have been negotiating a deal which would give Spurs first option on the Belgians’ players and allow them to give their youngsters experience of first-team football in the Jupiler League.

Manchester United and Arsenal already have similar agreements with Antwerp and Beveren respectively.

But Mouscron president Jean-Pierre Detremmerie said: ‘‘I’ve had a talk with Tottenham director of football David Pleat and I’m still waiting for his proposal.

‘‘But for me it is clear that Mouscron won’t become a satellite club. If a company is doing not so well, the first thing it does is close its subsidiaries.’’

Mouscron said last month that they were open to offers over a player-sharing deal but insisted they would not be sold to Tottenham’s chief shareholders ENIC Sports.
