Gardaí in Dublin have launched a murder inquiry after the discovery of a man’s body in the St Stephen’s Green area last night.

Gardaí in Dublin have launched a murder inquiry after the discovery of a man’s body in the St Stephen’s Green area last night.

The body was found near the Wolfe Tone monument across from the Shelbourne Hotel at around 10.30pm.

The dead man, thought to be in his early 40s, suffered severe facial injuries. Gardaí are treating his death as suspicious.

The State Pathologist conducted a preliminary examination of the body last night and a full post mortem will be conducted today.

The scene of the discovery has been preserved for technical examination.
