Two men are still being held by gardai in connection with an armed robbery in Co Donegal this morning.

Two men are still being held by gardai in connection with an armed robbery in Co Donegal this morning.

The raid, during which a number of gardai and civilians were held hostage, took place in the early hours of this morning at a nightclub in Redcastle.

During the raid, staff of the nightclub and gardai who had been called to the scene were tied up and held at gunpoint.

The men escaped with a hostage and were pursued to the Derry border, where the hostage was released unharmed.

The two men were stopped at a foot and mouth checkpoint and were arrested after a firearm was found in the vehicle.

The pair are being held under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at garda stations in Buncranna and Burnfort.
