Lenny Kravitz helped Madonna adopt Mercy.

The 'Are You Gonna Go My Way' rocker let the 50-year-old singer stay in his luxurious French mansion when her adoption of the four-year-old Malawian child became too stressful and she needed to escape from the public eye.

He said: "It has been tough for Madonna. But she's doing good. She's been staying in my place in France while it was going on. I'm glad it's worked out."

Madonna was told earlier this year she would not be allowed to adopt the child because she hadn't lived in the African state for 18 months - a prerequisite in Malawi.

However, after months of battling the decision, Madonna - who raises three other children, adopted son David Banda, three, Rocco, eight, and 12-year-old Lourdes - was reunited with her new daughter last weekend after the adoption was finally approved.

This is not the first time Lenny has offered his home to a friend in need.

When US baseball star Alex Rodriguez separated from his wife Cynthia last year, the 45-year-old rocker gave Cynthia the keys to his Parisian home while she got over the split.

Madonna reportedly dated Alex during the final months of her marriage to Guy Ritchie and referred to him as her "soulmate".
