Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin has described as "superficial" Fine Gael's plans to abolish 145 quangos.

Mr Martin said the document unveiled by the party today is "full of contradictions".

Speaking in Killarney, Co Kerry this afternoon, Micheál Martin said the policy would not save any money.

"Through the New Era policy, (Fine Gael) intend to create the super-quango of all super-quangos. I think it's a fairly superficial document that they've announced today…It's of no great consequence in terms of budgetary savings or anything else," he said.
