UK research has found that the average mother carries out jobs with a commercial value of more than £2,500 (€3,089) over the Christmas period.

Cooking, cleaning, food-shopping and gift-buying were just some of the duties that many mothers perform during the festive season, a study by Debenhams Personal Finance found.

Analysts found that the commercial value of the services performed by a mother, in a family with two children under the age of 14, between December 20 and St Stephen's Day came to a total of £2,585 (€3,194).
