Thousands of condoms have disappeared between Malaysia and Japan.

The 700,000 rubber contraceptives – with a total value of $1.5m (€1.1m) - were loaded for their journey but never made it to the destination although the container in which they were being transported arrived empty and with the locks changed.

Police say they are completely baffled as to what happened to the merchandise but have vowed to try and find out at all costs.

A Malaysian police spokesman said: "We take the matter of the missing condoms very seriously... we are investigating the matter."
