Nick Barmby has been ruled out of Liverpool's UEFA Cup quarter-final second leg clash with Porto with an ankle injury.

The England international has failed to recover from the blow he sustained during the 4-2 FA Cup win over Tranmere.

But Reds boss Gerard Houllier has some good news ahead of the Anfield clash, with midfielder Steven Gerrard available despite a minor knock in the same game.

Houllier will have to give late fitness tests to Emile Heskey and Stephane Henchoz.
