The FAI is to decide in the next 24 hours on a venue for the FAI Cup final, with the RDS in Dublin the most likely choice.
Lansdowne Road was originally chosen as the venue for the final but the Ballsbridge venue is no longer an option meaning that the final was expected to be switched to Shelbourne’s home, Tolka Park.
However, Tolka Park has a capacity of just 9,500 – too small to cater for the supporters of Cork City and Drogheda United – meaning the FAI has had to look at alternative venues.
The RDS in Ballsbridge is one option that the FAI visited on Monday and it is currently the favoured option because of the greater capacity than Tolka Park.
