FF Senator 'like Bobby Ewing stepping out of the shower'
Fianna Fáil Senator Mark Daly has been compared to 'Dallas' character Bobby Ewing after recalling the Seanad from summer recess today.
The comment from Independent Senator Jillian van Turnhout came as Fianna Fáil were criticised today for trying to overturn Ireland's laws on organ donation.
Senator Daly arranged an emergency debate in the Seanad this morning on whether to rescind the laws.
He claims the laws implement a flawed system for organ donation, and wants a new authority set up to organise transplants on a national basis.
Senator van Turnhout said that there have been plenty of opportunities to call for a debate in the last year, without needing a special sitting during the summer break.
"I signed the motion for recall last year, but not this year, and I believe I've clearly outlined my reasons," she said.
"Part of me wonders - it's almost as if Senator Daly is trying to invoke the memory of Bobby Ewing stepping out of the shower and forgetting that the past year has happened."
The fictional character from the 80s US soap opera, who was killed in a previous episode, famously stepped out of the shower as scriptwriters explained away many preceding storylines as "a dream" by his wife Pam.
