Vignal wants regular action

Frenchman Gregory Vignal has set himself a target of playing in at least 25 games for Liverpool next season.

Vignal was beginning to establish himself at left-back for Liverpool last season only for his campaign to come to a premature end in October when he broke his foot in a Worthington Cup tie against Grimsby.

Vignal, who joined Liverpool in a £500,000 deal from Montpellier in September 2000, has made a full recovery and he now plans to force his way back into the starting line-up on a regular basis.

He told the club’s official website, www.liverpoolfc.tv: ‘‘I’m 21 now and so I need to be playing regular first-team football.

‘‘I want to play in 25 games this season - and then more if possible. I don’t really want to be playing five or 10 games for the first team and another 20 in the reserves.

‘‘I missed a lot of last season and so I am desperate just to play regularly again and show what I can do.’’
