Man held in connection with hit-and-run death

A man is in custody tonight after a pensioner was killed in a hit-and-run.

A man is in custody tonight after a pensioner was killed in a hit-and-run.

The 79-year-old woman died when she was hit by a car which failed to stop at Killeager, The Scalp, Enniskerry, Co Wicklow, shortly after 5pm.

Gardaí arrested a 33-year-old male in connection with the incident.

He is being detained at Shankill Garda station under the provisions of Section 4, Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Officers also named the victims of two weekend road crashes.

Timmy Lenihan, 50, of Mountcollins, Limerick, died in a collision at Glenbrack, Gort, and Margaret Moran, 68, of Cimaltha Road, Nenagh, Tipperary, was killed in an accident in her home town.
