Major traffic diversions are beginning on the M50 motorway this morning and will continue until the end of November.

Motorists are being advised that the diversions will be in place at the Ballymount, Palmerstown and Red Cow interchanges.

The roadworks are expected to cause increased congestion on the motorway but South Dublin County Council is appealing to drivers to be patient.

The council's John McLaughlin has appealed to drivers to identify where they are going and follow the signs. He has asked people to bear with the council and says that they are trying to get the job done as quickly as possible.
