Russian President Vladimir Putin told Tony Blair today that he has serious reservations about using force to topple Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.
Putin said there was “real potential” for a political solution to the crisis around Baghdad’s alleged stockpiling of weapons of mass destruction, said Kremlin spokesman Alexei Gromov.
The Russian leader also expressed doubts that the use of force against Iraq would correspond to international law, Gromov said.
He said it could also have negative consequences for the Persian Gulf region, the entire Middle East and the preservation of the international anti-terrorist coalition.
The British prime minister rang Putin as part of an effort to help Washington drum up international support for an attack against Iraq.
