Dail Health Committee to discuss future of country's maternity services

The Dail's Health Committee is discussing how best to meet future needs of maternity services.

The Masters of the Coombe and the Rotunda Hospitals are appearing before the committee this morning.

Both of those hospitals and the National Maternity Hospital at Holles Street in Dublin are all earmarked to move to new sites.

Chair of the Health Committee, Jerry Buttimer TD says challenges facing the services are also on the agenda.

Mr Buttimer said: "Our meeting will focus on the issues at hand in terms of maternity services along with planning for the future in terms of the standard of care, the infrasctructure that is in place and in terms of the challenges facing maternity services.

"Our meeting with Masters of the Coombe and the Rotunda will allow us the opportunity to discuss the very future of maternity services along with having a discussion on how best to develop and put in place infrastructural supports to meet the needs of the country in the coming years."
