Union to urge end to overtime ban at Passport Office

The dispute at the Passport Office looks set to conclude.

It follows yesterday's public service deal that rules out further pay cuts until 2014.

The row has led to a backlog of 50,000 passport applications.

A special meeting of the executive of the Civil Public and Services Union is underway to discuss the latest social partnership deal hammered in the early hours of yesterday morning.

CPSU General Secretary Blair Horan is recommending an end to the overtime ban.

"If overtime working resumes then passports speed up very considerably," Mr Horan said.

"We have a draft deal on the table and members have to reflect on it.

"My own recommendation to the Executive would be that we should lift the overtime ban."
