Renowned film director Mike Leigh is returning to the theatre with his first play in 10 years.
Leigh, whose films include Secrets and Lies and Life Is Sweet, will stage his comeback production at the National Theatre. It is one of a host of new works unveiled today by the National’s artistic director Nicholas Hytner.
Leigh’s last stage play was It’s A Great Big Shame at Stratford East in 1993 and it is 25 years since he wrote the classic Abigail’s Party.
Details of the new project remain under wraps but it is sure be one of the highlights of next year’s programme at the theatre on London’s South Bank.
