Pop idol loser signs up with pepsi
Pop Idol loser Gareth Gates today joined the likes of superstar Britney Spears by signing a deal with drinks giant Pepsi.
The 17-year-old follows in the footsteps of pop greats Michael Jackson and Madonna and the deal will earn him a six-figure sum.
Pepsi plan to feature Gareth in a string of on-pack promotions, including competitions offering fans the chance to meet him.
Gareth said: ‘‘Robbie Williams is one of my ultimate pop idols I remember seeing his Pepsi advert on TV.
‘‘Pepsi is known for signing big stars and I’m really flattered that now it’s me next to massive celebrities like Michael Jackson, Madonna and Britney Spears.’’
The drinks firm said they were ‘‘thrilled’’ to have signed him and a spokesman said: ‘‘The nation has taken Gareth to their hearts and we are delighted to be working with such a hot property in the UK.’’
Gareth’s debut single, a cover of Unchained Melody, is released on March 18.
