Arnold Schwarzenegger is not impressed by an Austrian art group’s plans to build a huge Terminator statue in the city where the actor was born.
The Forum Stadtpark wants to build a 82ft statue of Arnie’s sci-fi film character in a park in central Graz.
The metal statue would tower over the park’s trees and more traditional statues, and would hold a giant globe above its head.
The money for the project – €4.7m – has yet to be raised.
Angelika Reitzer, manager for the forum, said today that her group had received a letter from the muscle-bound star who has political ambitions in the US.
“He said he was flattered but that he thought it would be better to spend the money on social projects and the Special Olympics,” she said.
The group has not abandoned its plans, she added, but also needs to win permission from city officials, who she said are “not enthusiastic”.
