The detective leading the investigation into the murder of Amanda Dowler said the woods where her body was found may still yield the 'vital clue' in the hunt for her killer.

The detective leading the investigation into the murder of Amanda Dowler said the woods where her body was found may still yield the 'vital clue' in the hunt for her killer.

Detective Chief Superintendent Craig Denholm said the “painstaking” search of the spot at Yateley Heath forest at Minley, near Fleet, Hampshire, could still take weeks.

Officers are locating CCTV footage from motorway cameras between the scene and the 13-year-old’s home in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, in the hope that it may provide more leads.

The schoolgirl, known as Milly, vanished six months ago after getting a train home from her school in Weybridge. Her remains were found last week.

Speaking at the cordoned-off scene, Mr Denholm said: “The search is a painstaking process.

“The vital clue could well be in this area and we are determined to be as thorough as possible to find that lead.

“I anticipate this search to continue for some time, potentially going into days, possibly weeks.”
