The FTSE 100 Index looked set for another day of modest gains today as traders awaited further developments in the Gulf.

On relatively light trading, the blue-chip index was 22 points higher at 3783.8 by lunchtime.

Dealers will now be awaiting a lead from Wall Street where the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed ahead 65.55 points last night – although some expected it to open flat this afternoon.

Analysts said the next step for the Footsie remained unclear because of the delicate position of events in the Gulf.
