Mick Harford has rejected the chance to return as first-team coach of Luton Town because he is “dejected and aggrieved” over his sacking almost a fortnight ago.
Harford was dismissed by letter along with Hatters manager Joe Kinnear on May 23 following the takeover of the club by a consortium who have yet to identify themselves.
Luton offered the 44-year-old his old job back and are in talks to reinstate Kinnear – but Harford will not be returning.
He told BBC Three Counties Radio: “These actions by the club that I love and have served for many years both as player and as coach have left me feeling dejected and aggrieved.
“For reasons best known to themselves, the club and the faceless new consortium have treated me as if I have done an injustice.
“Nothing can be further from the truth, and in my opinion it makes the offer of employment in these circumstances unattainable.”
Harford spent two spells as a player at Kenilworth Road, lifting the League Cup in 1988 following a 3-2 win over Arsenal, before returning as Kinnear’s number two.
