Shelbourne manager Pat Fenlon has toasted his players for delivering back-to-back eircom League titles to the Tolka Park trophy cabinet.
A point for Shels last night in a goalless draw at St Patrick’s Athletic was enough to see them home to a successful championship defence as Cork City were held by Bohemians.
It was Fenlon’s second league title in three seasons at the helm and he said: “The lads have been magnificent and they totally deserve it. It didn’t matter what happened in Cork. We won the league here at Richmond Park.
“It’s a wonderful achievement for this club, lots of people have put so much into this club. It takes a big effort to keep it going, but the expectations at Shelbourne are that we have to win things and we won’t be resting on our laurels, we’ll be building again for next season.
“No words from me are going to be able to console Cork tonight. They’ve had a brilliant season, and built a tremendous squad, but we were just too strong for them in the end.”
