The Labour Party and Sinn Féin are leading a Dáil push for measures to prevent the exploitation of agency workers.

The two parties have tabled a private members' motion demanding the enactment of EU legislation protecting the rights of migrants and agency employees.

They say such workers should enjoy the same conditions as regular employees, including entitlements to sick pay and pension schemes.

The move is being undertaken amid reports that many Irish employers are using agency staff to reduce their costs and by-pass employment rights legislation.
