Toffees face competition for Parker

Scott Parker’s proposed move to Everton is set to come under intense pressure in the next few days from a host of interested Premiership clubs.

Scott Parker’s proposed move to Everton is set to come under intense pressure in the next few days from a host of interested Premiership clubs.

Everton are in pole position to sign the Chelsea midfielder whose season at Stamford Bridge was wrecked by a broken foot.

Parker has failed to establish himself as a regular under coach Jose Mourinho and although he could remain at Stamford Bridge, it is understood the player’s desire for first-team football will spark his departure.

Everton are ready to make a £6million offer for the 24-year-old and it is understood the Merseysiders could have already opened talks with the player.

But Aston Villa, Newcastle, Birmingham and Tottenham are also ready to step in to talk to the player and it is understood he has not yet made up his own mind about his final destination.

Everton boss David Moyes should complete the signing of Simon Davies from Spurs for £4m (€6m) by the weekend and also hopes to wrap up a deal for Parker, who cost Chelsea £10m (€15m) from Charlton in January 2004, by then.

Moyes is looking to bolster his squad ahead of their Champions League campaign next season and has cash available to spend.

Chelsea would not confirm or deny that Parker had begun talks with Everton today but it is understood the deal is far from being concluded.
