Officials at Sedgefield will have a further inspection at 9.30am to assess prospects for this afternoon’s meeting.

The County Durham track passed a 7.30am check as temperatures failed to fall below freezing overnight but fog is now covering the track.

Clerk of the course Gemma Charrington said: “The ground is raceable as we only got down to zero degrees overnight but we are unraceable at present due to fog.

“We will have another look at 9.30am in the hope that it lifts with the sun rising.

“There are conflicting weather reports but most forecasts say sunny spells are forecast, although fog patches are set to linger in places.”
