The Irish building firm Century Homes has been sold to the Kingspan construction group in a deal worth almost €100m.

The company, which is Europe's largest builder of timber-frame houses, was established in 1990 and currently employs 460 people in Ireland and Britain.

Century has 40% of the timber-frame housing market in Ireland and builds around 6,000 homes per annum, roughly one-tenth of all new homes constructed in the country.

Its CEO, Gerry McCaughey, said the takeover announced today would help the company to grow, to develop new products, to enter more markets and to create jobs.
