Bassong eyes Spurs exit door

Defender Sebastien Bassong has indicated he wants to leave Tottenham.

Defender Sebastien Bassong has indicated he wants to leave Tottenham.

The Cameroon international, 24, has started just seven of Spurs’ 37 Premier League games this season and he has been an unused substitute on 30 occasions in all competitions.

Bassong started 25 league games in the 2009-10 campaign as Tottenham finished fourth to qualify for the Champions League, and the former Newcastle player feels as though he has gone “from heaven to hell” in 12 months.

He told the Guardian: “For a bit I felt lost because I haven’t faced this situation before in my career. I feel that I have gone backwards, like I have gone from heaven to hell.

“I am a guy who simply has to play. I would never just sit there and take the money. I am reaching an age where, if I don’t play week in, week out, and if I don’t feel real trust in me, then I can’t stay, no matter which club it is.”

Bassong’s admission follows on from Jermain Defoe hinting at a move away from White Hart Lane if he continues to play a limited role up front for the north London club.
