Posh launches battle for solo chart success

Victoria Beckham was this morning starting her push to land her first solo number one with her latest single, Not Such An Innocent Girl, due out on September 17.

But her first TV appearance to promote the single - on Ant and Dec’s cd:UK programme this morning - was to be head to head with Aussie star Kylie Minogue, releasing her latest hit, Can’t Get You Out Of My Head, on the same day.

And as the battle between the two pop stars begins, David Beckham will be fighting to steer England to victory in England’s crucial World Cup qualifier against Germany tonight.

Straight after her TV appearance Victoria will race back to ‘‘Beckingham Palace’’, the couple’s opulent Hertfordshire mansion, to settle down with Brooklyn to watch David and his England team-mates take to the field in Munich.

But the Beckhams’ busy weekend does not end there. Posh Spice is also launching her new autobiography today.

She said: ‘‘The book shows that I’m a real person.

‘‘Nothing has ever come particularly naturally to me.

‘‘I wasn’t the best singer, the best dancer, I was never one of the pretty girls. I was always very much the underdog.

‘‘But I’ve made the best of what I’ve got, and I work hard. I’m proof that if you want something enough, you can do it.’’

Tomorrow morning the Spice Girl will be up bright and early to head off to Leicester, where she is performing at Radio 1’s One Big Sunday event at Victoria Park in the city.

Kylie is also on the bill.

But Victoria’s reception at the gig could have more to do with England’s result on the field tonight than her own performance.

As well as the single and book, which is due out on September 13, Posh’s debut solo album is due for release in October.

‘‘It isn’t a Posh Spice record,’’ she said. ‘‘It isn’t a Posh ’n’ Becks thing. This is a Victoria Beckham thing.’’
