Incident during airlift of stricken teenagers in Wexford to be investigated

The Air Accident Investigation Unit is to review the circumstances of a rescue at Hook Head in Co. Wexford last Sunday.

Two teenagers were winched from the water by a rescue helicopter after they were swept out to sea by a freak wave.

However, it is understood an incident took place during the winching operation.

The AAIU will examine the circumstances surrounding that incident before deciding if a full investigation is required.

A spokesman refused to be drawn on the nature of the incident.
