“You can prove anything with statistics” - and that’s exactly what Irish users of social networking site Twitter have been attempting to do today.
The Central Statistics Office released the results of the 2011 Census today, containing important socio-economic data which legislators and local government will be using for their future planning decisions.
Many members of the public have used it as an opportunity to put forward their own humorous take on Irish society, however.
“13% of Irish people can't count but 88% are excellent at maths,” mused popular contributor Colm Tobin, as well as “234,675 people said they preferred King Crisps to Tayto”.
“11% of people thought they were filling in a take-away order from the Chinese," stated Damien Mulley.
Darragh Doyle tweeted: “No Irish child born after 1990 knows all the words to "Dilín ó deamhas ó deamhas". Many 1980s children reading have just hummed it”.
“How many Jedis? It's all that interests me,” @karlypants contributed.
