Sligo Rovers 1 St. Patrick’s Athletic 2 (St. Pat’s win 6-2 on aggregate)

Superbly taken goals from Paul Byrne and captain Damian Lynch eased St. Pat’s through to the final of the Setanta Sports Cup where they’ll meet either Linfield or Bohemians on May 15.

With a three goal deficit to chase from Tuesday‘s first leg, Sligo had the start they needed with the lead goal on the night after nine minutes.

A long kick-out from goalkeeper Richard Brush bounced through for the run of Conor O’Grady and the hometown skipper beat Dan Connor with a left foot volley from 20 yards.

But sloppy Sligo defending all but ended the tie on 23 minutes when St. Pat’s levelled.

Vinny Faherty’s cross in from the left was cleverly nodded down by the unmarked David McAllister and Byrne improvised superbly to beat Brush with an overhead kick.

Lynch then clinched the win with another excellent goal on 59 minutes.

Racing through the static Sligo defence from Byrne’s flick following his own throw, Lynch waltzed on to casually side foot the ball under the advancing Brush for a fine finish.
