Gardaí are investigating the discovery of a man's body in Clare.

The body of a 61-year-old man was found in a rural village lying face down close to where his car was parked near Ballynacally Community centre at around 9.45am.

It is believed the man in his sixties was from the nearby Kilmaley area and had been socialising in a pub in Ballynacally last night.

The deceased man is believed to be from the local area.

The body has been removed to the Limerick Regional Hospital where the deputy state pathologist is due to carry out a post mortem examination to determine the cause of death.

There were no obvious signs of injury but Gardai say they are keeping an open mind on the case for now.

Anyone who may have seen the deceased man last night is asked to contact Kilrush Garda station on 065 9080550.
