The father of a young man who died after being restrained by bouncers at a Cork nightclub is to resume his hunger strike outside the Dáil today.

Andrew Moynihan began the hunger strike in June due to the State’s failure to prosecute anybody in connection with the death of his son, Adrian.

He ended his protest after Justice Minister Michael McDowell informed him that the DPP was examining the files on his son’s death for a third time, but is due to resume it today due to the ongoing failure to take action.

An inquest into Adrian Moynihan’s death in March 2001 found that he died of restraint asphyxia, meaning he choked to death due to the way he was restrained by the bouncers.

He had been involved in an altercation with bouncers after being refused access to the Sidetrax nightclub.
