A man from Co Roscommon has died in a fire near Perth in Western Australia.

A man from Co Roscommon has died in a fire near Perth in Western Australia.

The victim, who is in his 20s, suffered severe burns after a gas explosion in the accommodation block at the farm where he worked.

The Irish Embassy in Canberra is providing consular assistance to the family of the man, who has not yet been positively identified.

It is understood the incident happened at the Mackie hay processing plant at New Norcia, about 140km (86 miles) north of Perth.

He was said to be in a communal kitchenette area of the portable accommodation on his own when the blast ripped through the building in the early hours of the morning.
