Former All-Ireland winning Derry boss Eamon Coleman has been ratified as the new Cavan senior football manager following in a long line of outside appointments in the Breffni County.

Coleman, who lives in Cavan and manages county champions Gowna, takes over from Meath boss Mattie Kerrigan who achieved precious little success in his spell bar a place in last year's league final.

Coleman said: "I intend to get the players together in late October or early November and by that time the full management team will be in place. I don’t intend to begin the training schedule until after Christmas."
