Charles Byrnes believes Cailin Alainn can bounce back to form in the O’Connell Logistics Hilly Way Chase at Cork on Sunday.
The nine-year-old was a prolific winner in 2006, scoring six times in succession including twice in Grade One company.
Following two crashing falls at Cheltenham, she has never quite been able to return to her best but Byrnes believes it would be dangerous to write her off just yet.
“She was obviously well beaten on her comeback at Cork last time but we weren’t too disappointed as we knew she would improve a fair bit for the run,” said Byrnes.
“She will be a much fitter horse now and I’m expecting a much-improved performance on Sunday.
“She might have gone down a little bit over the last couple of years but I certainly haven’t lost faith in her and she can win more races.”
A total of 12 runners are set to go to post for the Grade Two contest with Newmill, Justified and Knight Legend all interesting contenders.
