Marc Rothermund’s Sophie Scholl (ICA Projects, €24.99) is one of those films which leaves a powerful impression on the mind after viewing.
The film recounts the story of a young girl whose opposition to Hitler lands her in jail.
The psychological confrontation between Sophie (an excellent Julia Jentsch) and her interrogator is at the core of this haunting film.
If Jentsch looks familiar it’s because she also features in Downfall and The Edukators, another two reasons to start checking out recent German cinema.
Highly recommended.
