The crucial issue of pay is under discussion at the ASTI's annual convention in Galway.

Emotions are running high, but the media has been banned from the debate on the Labour Court's clarified package put forward a fortnight ago.

General Secretary Charlie Lennon has explained his report on the pay issue and the subject will be hotly argued over the next three days.

Ballot boxes have been brought into the conference centre with the ASTI voting whether to accept the package over the next two weeks.

The other issue to be voted on is whether, if the Labour Court deal is rejected, this year’s exams should be targeted.
