Greyhound chief stands over sacking of Bórd na gCon's CEO

The Chairman of Bord na gCon is standing over his statement that the sacking of Chief Executive Aidan Tynan is not linked to the greyhound doping controversy.

The Chairman of Bord na gCon is standing over his statement that the sacking of Chief Executive Aidan Tynan is not linked to the greyhound doping controversy.

Paschal Taggart says he contacted the Sports Minister yesterday but decided to go ahead with today's press conference against John O'Donoghue's wishes.

Mr Taggart is outraged over media coverage of the scandal.

He is adamant the inspector appointed to look into the affair will not be able to disprove what he has already said in relation to Aidan Tynan's sacking.

"I do not believe that Mr Dalton [the inspector appointed by Minister O’Donoghue] will be capable of investigating this aspect of it," he said.

“Was Mr Tynan sacked because of the EPO decision? And I am clearly, categorically – I’ve been saying it from the start – had no bearing whatsoever on the sacking.”

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern said he knew that the Minister for Sport had wanted everyone to “sit tight” on the matter until the investigation into the matter was completed.

“The Minister would have preferred that was what everyone had done, but the chairman of Bórd na gCon saw that differently," he told reporters.
