Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn have been accused of plotting to oust Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe by the African state's official press.
The two Hollywood actors recently starred in The Interpreter, a movie about an assassination attempt on an African dictator.
But the similarities between Mugabe and the fictional leader have caused a state controlled newspaper to speak out against the film.
The Herald newspaper reported: "The CIA is behind the release of this scandalous film."
It goes on to claim the picture is part of an "imperialist" plot and its release "timed to coincide" with next week's summit of world leaders at the UN in New York City.
