High Court to consider Quinn sanctions

Bankrupt businessman Seán Quinn will find out today if he is to face a spell in prison.

The High Court is to consider sanctions after finding him in contempt of court earlier this week.

The Court ruled Seán Quinn, his son Seán and nephew Peter Quinn were guilty of contempt of court orders restraining them from moving international property assets beyond the reach of the former Anglo Irish Bank.

Ms Justice Elizabeth Dunne found all three men were evasive and at times untruthful in their evidence of their business dealings.

The contempt proceedings were brought by IBRC, formerly Anglo, which claims to have security on the €500m worth of international assets in question.

The judge will hear submissions from both sides this morning before deciding if there is good reason to punish the Quinns for their conduct.

She has indicated that her decision may be influenced by the level of co-operation on offer by the three businessmen.
