Test results from 12 pigs suspected of having contracted foot-and-mouth disease will be released tomorrow morning.
Department of Agriculture veterinary inspectors discovered the pigs' suspicious symptoms at the Ballon Meats plant in Carlow yesterday.
The factory and the farm which supplied the pigs were both shut down.
The pigs were slaughtered and sent to an English laboratory for testing.
Ireland had a single case of foot-and-mouth in March 2001 sparking severe travel restrictions and the cancellation of public major public events.
