Citizens Advice is this week expected to announce it has dealt with a large increase in the number of inquiries about debt during the past year.
The charity will be publishing figures on Tuesday giving a breakdown of the issues people have come to it for advice on.
The figures will be published as part of the group’s national advice week, which will be running from September 10 to 16 on the theme of “advice changes lives”.
Citizens Advice will be stressing that people’s lives are not only changed through the advice they receive from one of its bureaux, but also by working for it on either a voluntary or paid basis.
More than 20,000 people volunteer for the service, but it has a high turnover with around a third leaving to go into paid work or education.
Last year the charity helped people deal with around 5.5 million problems, with advice given on issues ranging from benefits and debt to housing and employment problems.
Citizens Advice is the largest provider of free advice on money in the UK.
